Los Angeles speed safety systems
These are program rules from LADOT and city documents. They are not legal advice, and a pin on this map is not a statement that a citation is being issued today.
Checked 2026-10-24 against the LADOT program page, the Speed Safety System Use Policy, the September 2026 impact report, and the October 20, 2026 Transportation Committee report. Those are the only sources for the fines, the 11 mph threshold, and the warning period on this page. A number those documents do not publish is left off.
LADOT's program page says the first camera systems will activate on October 26, 2026, and that the department anticipates all systems will be activated by the end of 2026. This site's Camera Systems layer has 125 records (99 planned, 26 in a warning period). None were labeled as issuing citations. The September 2026 council-district lists were joined to that layer by system id.
Under California AB 645, as described on that page, a 60-day warning period applies when the program launches and when a system is activated on an additional street. During that period the program issues warning notices for speeding at least 11 mph over the posted limit. After the warning period, citations start at $50. The use policy says notices go to the registered owner from a rear license plate image, do not add points to the driver's DMV record, and generally do not affect insurance.
Fine schedule
LADOT's Speed Safety System Use Policy and the September 2026 impact report publish the same schedule:
- $50 for 11 to 15 mph over the posted limit
- $100 for 16 to 25 mph over
- $200 for 26 mph or more over, unless the speed is 100 mph or more
- $500 for 100 mph or more
The use policy also says a first violation of 11 to 15 mph over must be a warning ticket, and that only warning notices are issued for the first 60 days after a new system is activated. People under the federal poverty level may have fines reduced by up to 80 percent, and people up to 250 percent of the poverty level by up to 50 percent. A diversion program can allow community service instead of payment.
What the live layer said
On the retrieval used for this site, Warning Live is shown as a warning period, not as citations. Under Construction is shown as planned. The September 2026 lists still said Construction for every row; that older label is kept on the record and is not used as the current status.
An October 20, 2026 Transportation Committee report says installation is phased, the systems are to be in the warning-live phase no later than January 2027, and citation revenue could begin on or after October 31, 2026. That is a schedule statement in a committee report, not a per-camera activation date. This site does not invent activation dates the layer does not publish.
The same report says that in June 2026 the Council authorized an agreement with American Traffic Solutions, Inc., doing business as Verra Mobility, to operate the system (Council File 26-0707). Operator is filled from that program-wide authorization. A hardware model is not, because these documents do not name one.
